Cap Metro Fitness

Spray paint and acrylic paint on wall (drywall and brick), 2016

Austin, TX

Tim Kelly the wellness specialist for Cap Metro's fitness program approached me with the opportunity to brighten up their downtown gym area as it is located in a lower-level basement room with no windows or natural light and only a drab and uninspiring paint job. I recommended the stained glass style for its dynamism and bright colors, but also because it could give the illusion of a window outside. Their only stipulations required were that it depicts gym-related activities and inspires motion. Thus the main landscape of a close-up of a female runner is off balance and with a stylized Auditorium shores skyline in the background. On the left wall is a man lifting weights. On the second installment at the East campus then, as it was bigger and had an existing color scheme to work with, I integrated complementary colors to show a woman practicing yoga and a man cycling outdoors. Both walls have text stylized for "Cap Metro Fitness" and the common gym quote "Give It!"
