Spray paint on stucco exterior

Dougherty Art Center, Austin, TX

Having worked in and out of the Dougherty Arts Center with Totally Cool Totally Art teen art outreach since 2006, I jumped at the opportunity to finally splash some color on the aged facade around the marquee. The brainchild of the former site manager/director, there were to be three mural installations from three local muralists, showing respectively Austin people, nature, and culture. I drew the nature card, and depicted a variety of native flowers and cacti, along with an everyday grackle wise and omnipresent overlooking the uncertain future of the long-standing arts center and further afield Austin in its entirety. The colorful stained glass style collage flexed well around the marquee and worked to enhance the center's entryway. Hearing positive feedback from the community such as, “Wow, it finally looks like an Arts center!” were encouraging to hear.
