Glass tile mosaic on cement board, Schluter strip frame

Georgetown Municipal Courthouse, Georgetown, TX

Being awarded the entrance lobby feature wall art installation for the new construction of Georgetown Courthouse, I strove to integrate a local landmark with a naturalistic theme, like a larger-than-life postcard that people can interact with. I was inspired by the sprawling depth and beauty of the vista from Jim Hogg Campground at Lake Georgetown and wanted to recreate a simple and serene scene with a timeless technique.

Deceiving in its simplicity, I sourced every 3/4 inch glass tile color available across the country and fabricated a slightly blurry, technologically-impressionistic (pixelated) version of this photographic image. I developed a system using computer design software to count colors and render it to the exact site dimensions. I proceeded to fabricate the mosaic mural off-site using exactly 53,940 hand-placed glass tiles.
