Known as an official Bird City of Texas, San Marcos boasts many native and migratory bird species that can often be found around the local rivers, like the Wood Duck, grackle, Painted Bunting depicted on the front side of the mural. Fish life is also abundant and contributes to a vibrant, thriving ecosystem thanks to the spring fed San Marcos and other rivers flowing through town. The back side of the mural shows the Guadalupe bass, redear sunfish, and San Marcos gambusia.
