Art deco mural of a stylized woman and a woman driving a car on a brick wall in a parking lot

Tamara de Lempicka was an incredible and prolific Polish artist and creative, and also a rebel and antagonist truly ahead of her time. She dedicated her career to creating unique art all over the world. Her exceptional talent gave her many opportunities, painting exquisite Art Deco portraits of aristocrats and the affluent throughout the 20th century. Born in Poland, she lived and worked in Italy, France, the US, and Mexico. Tamara spent almost a decade living in Houston and her daughter, Kizette, was known and influential in the cultural life of Houston in the 1950s.

This mural depicts details of Lempicka’s paintings Muchacha de verde con guantes (Jeune Fille en vert) (Left) and Self-Portrait in the Green Bugatti (Right). Focusing on their faces and sharp gaze reflects the strength of Lempicka herself and her legacy in the Polish art community.

This project could not have been possible without the help of Dot Dot Dot Connect, a non-profit that wanted to represent a powerful Polish woman and provide that representation here in Austin.
