Pennzoil Place, Houston, TX

A week-long residency, live painting activation for Pennzoil Place in Houston, Texas. Philip Johnson is the face of the cube, he was the architect who designed the iconic postmodern towers back in the mid-70s, which still resonate with architects, visitors, and tenants of the building today and provide a striking contrast to the other buildings in downtown Houston.

I used interesting angles, photographs, shadows, and construction of the building inside and out as inspiration for all four sides, turning the cube into a geometric abstraction that reads independently one side at a time, though still flowing all together as you walk around it. The top was also painted as a fully-functional 8' x 8' QR code, only visible from the higher floors in the building.
