Life is Sweet

8ft x 60ft

Acrylic paint on wall

Hayman’s Market, St Peter, Barbados

Honoring the legacy of Bajan sugarcane farmers who worked the fields for generations around Hayman’s factory which is now transformed into Hayman’s Market, Life Is Sweet collages historic photos of the diverse laborers from around the world and a few hundred years of island history, with the laid-back lifestyle of modern-day Barbados, and some sugarcane and modern indulgences enjoyed by all. Vibrantly showcases both the hard work and relaxation that makes Barbados so unique.

The title Life Is Sweet was inspired by my time working on a sugarcane farm on Ishigaki Island in Japan, which led to the creation of my second book of the same title. It depicts the life of these hardworking farmers, a motif I carried into this mural in Barbados.
