Rio Grande Sunset

Glass tile mosaic
Frisco, TX
Rio Grande river landscape at sunset, pixelated and overlaid with some large glitches—digital impressionism. As an important water source for two nations, the Rio Grande symbolizes their natural cooperation and perceived division. Over a dozen cultures and languages have named it, and most believe the river to be a life-giving serpent. With climate change and overuse, we are challenged to remember that we must protect the historically and culturally important region.
The mural was created through Muzacz’s signature digital impressionism process, where each glass tile functions like a pixel in a digital image. Volunteers from the community helped bring the piece to life by setting these tiles into pre-designed gridded sections, much like a collaborative color-by-numbers. This hands-on process invited people of all ages and abilities to contribute, making space not only for creative expression but for new friendships and shared memories. As the final image came together tile by tile, so too did a sense of connection to place, echoing the communal spirit that has always flowed along the banks of the Rio Grande.
