Loretta the Longhorn

I just wrapped up a new mural at The Loretta affordable housing apartments in Northwest Austin, depicting Loretta, a calf that grew up on that land shortly before it was developed. This mural honors Loretta as a baby calf with her signature triangle marking on her forehead. She’s shown sniffing the vibrant local flora and fauna — and perhaps the viewer as well! She’s surrounded by her fellow longhorns from the pasture in dynamic ripped patterned sections that contrast the natural beauty.

This couldn’t have been done without the help of Foundation Communities who commissioned this mural and developed this affordable, multi-family apartment community. They operate 23 affordable housing communities in Austin with a variety of support programs for their residents, so it was very meaningful to be able to create a mural that honors the heritage of the area as well as enlivens both the environment and the residents.

You can see the mural at The Loretta, 13649 Rutledge Spur, Austin, TX 78717
